About Us
AI Lumen started as iLumen in 2012, as a project launched in conjunction with the Tearney Lab at Mass General Hospital. iLumen’s focus was on providing retroview video during colonoscopies using a backward-looking camera which would wirelessly transmit high-definition video from inside the body to the outside. The challenges of transmitting high-definition video through human tissue caused a shift in approach. As a result, the company shifted to transmitting low resolution video through tissue and to the use of an AI algorithm to upscale the video to near-HD quality. Thus AI Lumen was born.
Today, AI Lumen continuing its work with the Tearney Lab at MGH, on the hardware side, and an outside development firm, on the AI algorithm, hoping to launch feasibility trials in 2025.
AI Lumen’s managing director and chief investor is Mack Reese, a real estate development executive from Atlanta, GA. Mack is joined by Charlie McGimsey, a Principal at the accounting firm of Windham Brannon, as Chief Financial Officer. On the technical and development side are Mike Calhoun, a former J&J medical device development leader, and William Turner, an ex-BCG consultant with over a decade of medical device development experience. AI Lumen partners in its development with Gary Tearney of the Tearney Lab at Mass General Hospital.
